The Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army has been asked to address the issue
of small arms seriously in the Eastern Bank areas of Magwi, Budi Kapoeta and
other areas where they have control. This appeal was made by participants at
a consultative meeting organised by the Uganda Joint Christian Council, The
National Council of Churches of Kenya and the New Sudan Council of Churches.
The two-day meeting was held at the Grand regency hotel in Kampala, Uganda.
It addressed issues of how to curb the proliferation of small arms together
as a region. This is because the areas affected by the problem of the influx
of small arms are bordering each other in Uganda, Kenya, and Sudan. He meeting
agreed on formation of an office in each individual cluster to look into the
problem but each office would report back to the regional task force.Another
consultative meeting is scheduled for 29th May.
